This Week At JOY
August 30 - September 5
This is Pastor Lane's week to return to the fold. We can hardly wait to have him back in the church; it's been a really long summer. Pastor Lane will not be returning entirely empty handed. You'll have a chance to meet Vicar Ashley Twitchell, also. Joy is really taking off in the growth campaign.
I received a notice this morning concerning our August The Carpenter's Table Challenge: "Thank you to our challenger and our Joy Family. Your generousity has enabled us to forward a total of $2900 to The Carpenter's Table." Wow!! That is wonderful. I'm so proud of the donations given for this wonderful cause. I've said before we never know who we might be feeding. Having worked there on many Saturday mornings, I know what a blessing this will be to see the shelves get stocked again.
Monday: Tonight the Joyful Readers will be meeting at Faith Reitmeier's house at 6:30 for supper and to discuss Three Cups of Tea.
Tuesday: Men-A-Plenty Men's Bible Study will be held at the Beacon starting at 8:00am.

First Wednesday!! We will be having a wonderful meal of Lasagna, Salad, Garlic Bread and Ice Cream--hum! hum! The eating will begin at 5:30 and the cost for the meal is the normal cost. Following the dinner, we can all participate in making "Stepping Stones for Joy". You are invited to bring small items to be placed in your own stepping stones that will be placed in the flower beds with the stepping stones made a few years ago. Children often look at the stones trying to remember which one they made. See if you can find something to include in your stone that would be your reminder.

We all to often hear about special collections for this project or that: collections of food, collections of coats, collections of school supplies.... To honor the memory of Owen Andrew O'Connor, we would like to collect diapers for families in need on Wednesday night. Very sadly, there are babies who spend a whole day in only one diaper because it is what the parents can afford. We would like for the families of Joy to donate diapers for these babies in memory of Owen.

Adult choir will have practice on Wednesday night following the program at 7:00.
Sunday: will be the first day back in the pulpit for Pastor Lane. Everyone is invited to attend the "Welcome to Joy" Reception that will be held for Vicar Ashley and her husband Mike. If you have not signed up to bring something for the reception, you may call the church office or simply bring a plate ready to serve on Sunday morning. The reception will be held at 9:30 between the morning services.
Mary Ann Bethea has announced that her Women's Bible Study will begin at 9:30 on Wednesday, September 8. They will be studying the Book of Acts. A nursery is provided. If you are interested in joining this class, contact Mary Ann at the church office.
